All ministries, departments and state agencies have been directed by the government not to enter into any tenders without seeking the approval of the Attorney General Githu Muigai.
Solicitor General Njee Muturi has said that the AG issued a circular to ministries and government departments asking them to ensure that his office has cleared all contracts above 5 billion shillings.
The move is to ensure that all contracts are drafted within the law and there is no loophole for manipulation Njee said as he spoke at a round-table convened by the National Assembly.
He also said the move will help in dealing with tenderprenuers whose interest is to fleece taxpayers.
“The Attorney General has issued a circular directing that all contracts entered to or the ones term8inated must seek his approval,” he said.
Njee also said the move follows massive cancelation of tenders which are worth billions of shillings that have have sometimes led to loss of money.
