Police have been allowed to dig up and disinter bodies from a mass grave at Omar Jillo in Lathe village.
Dancun Mtai, the Mandera Resident Magistrate ordered the exhumation of the body of Mrs Isnina Musa Sheikh that was found in one of the graves and hurriedly buried by family members the same day.
In an affidavit, police stated they needed court orders to exhume bodies and carry out investigations to ascertain their identities and cause of death.
The affidavit says the police were alerted by members of public about a body of a woman within Omar Jillo, which was taken and preserved at Mandera County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Politicians from the county arrived in Omar Jillo today morning and will attend the exhumation scheduled to take place in the afternoon.
