LORRY ATTACKED IN LAMU, POLICE VEHICLE GOES MISSING



Unidentified gunmen attacked a lorry in Lamu County yesterday and killed one person, as a police vehicle on patrol in the area went missing.
Confirming the incident Regional police commander Francis Wanjohi, said the attack took place at 6 p.m. in Mkunumbi, near Mpeketoni.

He said there was a police patrol vehicle in the area and it cannot be traced but military officers have begun searching the nearby forests.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack, but Somalia's Al-Shabaab insurgents have in the past claimed responsibility for attacks in the region.

Police in Nairobi are now looking for a gang of about five men, believed to be holed up in Mbotela estate suspected to be behind carjacking of the Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs).
According to police records, there has also been an increase in carjacking of motorists and passenger vehicles, with money and property valued at about Sh1.5 million stolen.
At least three people have been shot dead in Nairobi by robbers since Saturday night.
