A man was lynched in Majengo slums, Nairobi, after stabbing a commercial sex worker to death in a disagreement over her pay.
Police said the man had agreed to give the woman Sh200 but refused to pay after they had sex, prompting a fight. They said it was during the fight that the man stabbed the woman.
Officers said the mob attacked the man before they arrived.
They said the woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital. The body was taken to City Mortuary.
Several incidents of the murder of sex workers have been reported in counties including Nairobi, Laikipia and Nakuru.
Commercial sex workers in Nakuru said a serial killer was targeting and mutilating them.
In October 2015, they petitioned the president to help end killings believed to have been targeted, saying they deserved fair treatment.
The Kenya Sex Workers Association wrote an open letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta, following the killing of four prostitutes, whose bodies were disfigured.
The killings sparked fears of a serial killer, protests over police laxity and demands for protection by the goverment.
