LOUIS OTIENO TESTIFIES

TV Personality Louis Otieno
By Patrcia Kebirungi.
An investigation into the death of Careen Chepchumba, former employee at Kenya power and Lighting Company who died mysteriously four years ago, is set to commence next month. Louis Otieno, former television personality denied any involvement in her death and is expected to testify in the inquest. Ms Chepchumba, 26, was found dead in her Santonia Court home, off Kirichwa Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, on February 14, 2012. A file was opened in 2012 but inquisition into the case has delayed proceedings as key witnesses, including the woman’s parents, failed to avail themselves in court.
Police had initially concluded that Ms Chepchumba had committed suicide, but postmortem by a government pathologist conducted a few days later showed that the victim had been strangled.
During investigations, police interviewed over 15 witnesses, including Mr. Louis Otieno who was questioned more than five times. His DNA was then taken to try and match with samples collected at Ms. Chepchumba’s home and body.
On Thursday, Chepchumba’s parents appeared before Kibera Resident Magistrate Charles Ondieki requesting the case be dropped since there were no available leads to continue the case.
The magistrate however explained that the inquest was not a criminal or civil case, where one withdraws at will anytime they deem fit. They were later requested to be patient enough to allow further investigations to in order to determine what happened through various testimonies of four witnesses, the security guards on duty at the time of the incident and Mr. Louis Otieno will be presented in court.
