| Tunoi to face probe commitee on monday over bribery claims |
By Bentura kwamboka
A panel investigating a Sh200million
bribery claim against Justice Philip Tunoi has got a look of the the seriousness of the allegations
for the first time the National
Intelligence Service handed report on
the contents sworn by Geoffrey Lelmett Kiplagat. In the attested statement, Kiplagat sensationally claims the judge was
given a Sh200 million bribe by Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, to influence the
outcome of a case against the city boss filed by his election challenger,
Ferdinand Waititu.
Both Tunoi and Kidero have pleaded their
innocence During the panel’s nearly two-hour closed door meeting at the Supreme
Court, the intelligence agency’s report — believed to be the same one presented
by Chief Justice Mutunga before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on
Wednesday—however generated some concerns that saw the investigations get off
to a slow start.
Justice Tunoi had choosed senior counsel to
represent him, setting the stage for a legal fight of epic proportions.
Tunoi is expected to appear before the probe committee on Monday.
