Opposition leader Raila
Odinga has hit out against the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) failure to
try Kenyan leaders for crimes against humanity saying that the court has been
intimidated and blackmailed.
Mr. Odinga has accused
the court of being coerced by Kenya and the African Union which has declared
that its member countries would pull out of the Rome stature if the ICC did not
drop the charges against Deputy President William Ruto.
The former prime
minister who is on an official visit in France, told the AFP on Wednesday that
the court’s failure spelt doom for the global fight against impunity. He also
stated that Africa needed ICC more than any other part of the world as it is “the
biggest violator of human rights”
His remarks come after congratulating
Deputy President William Ruto after his case was declared a miss trial owing to
insufficient evidence provided by the prosecution to support the trial.
Odinga also said that
it was good that he was set free as a matter of fairness between the opposing
camps since ICC dropped charges against Uhuru Kenyatta and Francis Muthaura
